Athyrium ‘Silver Falls’
A unique fern with a broad habit. Attractive, arching triangular fronds are silvery-green. Foliage is a strong silver in Spring changing to green as the season progresses. Purple-red stems and midribs create a striking contrast. An excellent ground-cover for moist shady areas. A versatile garden plant for flowerbed. Prefers a damp soil in full or partial shade. Good for under-planting, in shady areas, in the woodland or rock garden. Approximate height and spread; 90cm x 60cm.
Athyrium niponicum ‘Red Beauty’
A unique fern with a broad habit. Attractive, arching triangular fronds are silvery-green. Contrasting stems and veins are a bright, burgundy-red with the intense colour taking up to 3 years to develop. An excellent ground-cover for moist shady areas. Height and spread (approx) 30cm x 30cm. Good for under-planting, in shady areas, in the woodland or rock garden.
Dicksonia antarctica
A magnificent specimen plant for architectural impact in the garden. Trunk forming fern crowned with gigantic rich green palm-like fronds which unfurl from the centre. In winter protect the crown by wrapping it up with straw or dead fronds. Tasmanian tree fern for growing in acidic soil in full or dappled shade. Hardy in mild areas. Also can be kept in containers in sheltered areas or cool conservatories in partial shade.
