Herbaceous Perennials
Herbaceous plants (in botanical use frequently simply herbs) are plants that have no persistent woody stem above ground. The term is mainly applied to perennials, but in botany it may also refer to annuals or biennials, and include both forbs and graminoids.
Annual herbaceous plants die completely at the end of the growing season or when they have flowered and fruited, and they then grow again from seed.
Herbaceous perennial and biennial plants may have stems that die at the end of the growing season, but parts of the plant survive under or close to the ground from season to season.
Agapanthus Ice Lolly
Forms a large clump of broad, strap-like, glossy green leaves. Sturdy erect stems bear large umbels of trumpet-shaped bright white flowers, borne in clusters. Blooming in late Summer. Garden plant for flowerbed in moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Can reach an average height of 90 cm and spread of 50 cm.
Agapanthus Northern Star
Forms a large clump of broad, strap-like, glossy green leaves, slightly flushed with purple at the base. Sturdy erect stems bear large umbels of multicolored, trumpet-shaped flowers in late Summer. Each petal is a violet-blue striped with purple at the centre. Garden plant for flowerbed in moist but well-drained soil in full sun.
Dierama pulcherrimum ‘Album’
A truly elegant addition to any garden. Narrow evergreen grass-like leaves form a clump, which is graced with tall arching stems resembling fishing rods - as it's name suggests. Nodding, bell-shaped bright white or slightly pink flowers dangle delicately from mid-late Summer. Height 100 cm. Spread 60 cm. Garden plant for flowerbed in well-drained soil in full sun. Prefers a sheltered spot. Good in beds, borders, cottage or coastal gardens. Also suitable in gravel/courtyard gardens or on banks/slopes.
